Social Work with Children, Youth and Families

Introduction to Nijam and Grace Case Study

This study revolves around a case study of Nijam and his wife Grace who came to Australia with their children Hassan and Miriam. This study demonstrates the challenges faced by the family and what are the ethical issues they are facing right now. This study is segmented into five fragments and demonstrates all the aspects of this scenario. Firstly, this study will identify the key presenting issues for this family and identify the recommendation that could help to eradicate the issues. As a social worker at the local community health care centres, it is a responsibility to identify an ethical issue that needs to be aware while dealing with Hassan and the whole family. However, there are key tasks that must be undertaken to conduct the first meeting with the entire family as this will be discussed in this study (Simionato, Simpson & Reid, 2019). At the end of the study, a conclusion is demonstrated that highlight all the findings of the study.

There are various issues in the family as the entire family came to Australia as accepted refugees after spending three years in a UNHCR refugee camp in Uganda. The family gain immense support from the local refugee support group and have a good connection with the Sudanese family. The family settled properly in Australia and all the members of the family decided their way to pursue their life further. Miriam joins primary school and settled quietly well as compared to Hassan. She easily manages and has strong and accepting peer group. She speaks fluent English which becomes an advantage while interacting with the fellow members. While on the other hand Hassan faces a challenge in interaction with the people and found the transition more difficult. Due to these difficulties he left school and has been working at a fruit and vegetable market.

Due to lack of education, he doesn’t get proper occupation and worked as labour. His friends were also his employers and co-workers (Murphy, Irfan, Barnett, Castledine & Enescu, 2018). They were also not educated therefore all the workers and the co-workers were staying out late and drinking. Hassan feels that their parents favour Miriam and don’t understand him. Therefore Hassan doesn’t talk to their parents and doesn't respect them. He doesn't talk properly with his parents and this is one of the major issues in the family. The family terms are not as good as all the members remain stressful and Hassan is also in wrong friend circle which is also a stressful thing for the parents. Hassan does not listen to their parents and recent that limitation his parents are imposing on him and also threatens his family that he will move into a house with their co-workers. These are the main issues in the family and with Hassan.

From the scenario, it is understood that there are various issues that the family is facing in terms of financial stability and personal understanding. Hassan has lots of issue with the family members as he thinks that their parents favour his sister not him. Hassan believes that their parents don’t understand their point of you which leads to misunderstanding among family members. Due to misunderstanding among the family members, Hassan is not able to interact properly with the parents and lack of communication creates more number of problems. He doesn’t interact with their family members and wants to separate himself from the family (Geiger, 2020). Hassan feels comfortable with their co-workers, therefore, he wants to shift with them and don't want to stay with his family. However, his parent's concern regarding his is interaction with the co-workers because all his friends have drinking habits which may lead Hassan into bad Influence.

As per the case study, it is understood that various issues arise in the family but proper communication can eradicate most of the issues. Lack of communication is one of the major issues and the key reason behind all these issues For example parents were busy in managing the financial stability after returning from the refugee camp and this makes communication and certain between family members. However, Hassan does not continue to study because of language issue and problem essays and studies when he shifted in Australia (Simionato, Simpson & Reid, 2019). Lack of support is also Reason from the school and also from the parents which help to end to this condition. Apart from this, all the members need to talk with Hassan and understand his point of you and make a decision that fulfils the requirements of both sides. Enhancing communication and giving proper support eradicate these issues and Hassan will understand the importance of family and studies.

The ethical issues that need to be considered while communicating with the family members are as follows. The very first step is to conduct the session between the family members individually. The interaction will be all alone and all the discussion will be confidential between Hassan and me. The first ethical issue that is considered is confidentiality among the members of the family (Tuana, 2018). The conversation with the person needs to be very confidential because there are some points that children won’t tell their parents every stage and clarity is very important. The second ethical issue that needs to be aware is the informed consent of all the family members. All the member's consent is very important before starting any action or conversation with the numbers because transparency is very important all the members will be informed preparing and conducting any interaction session with members.

The next ethical issue that needs to be undertaken is intervention and case management. The member needs to understand the process of intervention and full support and coordination is required to gain effective results. The next ethical issue is working effectively and respectfully with culturally diverse communities. Cultural diversity is very important while undertaking any intervention of process with the client and in this case, it is important to consider cultural diversity. Any statement can understand by the family members therefore it is very important to make family member understand the whole scenario and situation (Bartholdson, Lützén Blomgren, & Pergert, 2016). The next ethical issues are to maintain neutrality while treating the members of the family. As Hassan already believes that the family supports his sister, not him which is a big problem when conducting any session with Hassan. Therefore the family members need to understand the entire requirement and they can do the medication and intervention properly.

The main task that will be undertaken before conducting any process is to understand and test the scenario of the family. The first task that will be conducted is to find out full information regarding the family and the person associated with them. As Hassan having friends from their workplace, therefore, finding out the information about the friends and their habits is also important. All the information from the friends and the people associated with Hassan is also required before taking any action or interaction with Hassan. The next step is to understand the entire scenario from a parent's point of view. Before conducting any interaction with Hassan all the information is gathered from the family members as well as friends. The next step that needs to be undertaken is to find out the financial stability of the family members.

If a person wants to shift with their friends then the amount of financial stability required must be identified so that proper information will be gathered and argument will be strong to make that make him stay in the house. The next step is to consult Miriam regarding the issues that her brother faces in completing the education. The improper scenario must be demonstrated to each member such as the importance of communication importance of support and importance of education to each member of the family (Rousselet, Brial, Cadario & Béji-Bécheur 2020). All the members of the family need to understand the requirement of each other and support each other in every single step. However, Hassan needs to re-join the school for his studies and work as a part-time worker to gain some money out of it. All the information regarding the family will be collected before starting any official interaction with the family members.
