Western Australian Child Health Survey

Introduction to Education, Health, and Competence

A child's education is one of the essential activities of the Western Australia (WA) administration. The report will cover the issue behind the lessening of the attendance and the cause of irregularity with the rise of enrollment in the institute. Looking at the case study, here is a complete report addressing the problems and improvements required in the areas of attendance drop and rise in enrollment.

Background of Education, Health, and Competence

The School Education Act 1999 mandates that a school principal enroll any student who arrives at the school and maintain records of Attendance for them. The report looks at the data provided and determines the cause of the effect. There are recommendations contained in the field of enhanced structures for formally coping with ongoing failure to attend school, such as rapid referral to attendance committees, to track student attendance targets, including an overall government target, and assess strategies that tackle participation, identify, and communicate best practices. The majority of the absences in schools can be due to treatment- the parents' leaning or indifference, and this comes from the wanting to know the extent of the bad. Most of them are influenced by their affections, and readily meet their kid's wishes, authorizing them to be absent for trivial causes every time they leave for school.

1. Identifying the Problems

Here is the list of problems that are being recognized through the case study.

1.1 Rise in Enrollment with A Decline in Attendance

As we can see, each year there is a good number of registrations done in the school while the issues mentioned are in the attendance count of the school each day. The data shows that each day in the first hours, the headcount of the students seems fair enough, whereas, towards the end of the day, it decreases rapidly.

1.2 People Responsible Behind the Cause

Under the 1999 School Education Act (the Act), parents are mainly responsible for ensuring that their kids of school age are enrolled and attend school, and the Department is mandated to provide these children with an education. The cause in the attendance dysfunctionality involves the authorities such as; the principal, coordinator, and other representatives.

2. Ways to Resolve and Improve the Issues Encountered

2.1 Recognize the Issue

It is always suggested to know the complete issue. Through the case study, we witnessed that there is a rise in enrollment each year still the attendance each day is decreasing in the coordinators' presence.

2.2 Resolve the Issue with Suggestive Solutions

Any absence shall be investigated within three days, and the reason given. As the case study data shows in the first hour of the day the maximum students attend school and are present. But, around the end, the number decreases. The reason behind the issue can be that the students are not involved in school activities daily and lose their interest in the end.

2.3 Recover the Problem

It should be noted that where Attendance is below 90% or is defined as an issue, school, and authoritative approaches to reestablish Attendance are enforced. Each day the school authorities can keep track of the students entering the premises and taking Attendance twice a day to maintain attendance mobility and service profitability. There should be several co-curriculum activities to engage students and increase attendance regularity.

This can be improved by talking to their respective parents and asking them to motivate their children to attend school regularly and attending it fully. However, it is recommended that

  • the school authorities shall review and report periodically to the Executive on the efficacy of its policies and programs for student attendance.
  • Weekly meetings with the respective parents regarding the specific activities and attendance results of the children.
  • Guidelines to schools in developing and sustaining relationships in their local region can help solve student attendance concerns.
  • The school authorities shall talk to the parents regarding the mental and physical state of each child and reason the absence or leaving early each day.
  • If a child skips a day, it is crucial for the parents to discuss with the teacher and know the way to secure help for the child and make him/his catch up with the school curriculum.

Conclusion on Education, Health, and Competence

The report suggests developing the habit of going to school every day is important, so children do not miss out on vital ideas and skills they need for future learning. To improve the service's profitability, the school and the authorities need to follow the steps mentioned above and look at some of the recommendations provided.
