Profile

I am currently a student of nursing at Western Sydney University. I am also a successful accomplished by qualification from the National vocational institute of Australia from the McCurry institute Pty Ltd in the past. I am a Professional holding an experience of the 2 years in the nursing care, adhering to the code of conduct and abiding by the practices. Being a nurse, to provide quality practices and ensure patient safety should be complied with (Sockolow, et al, 2018). Adhering to the standard protocols, following the procedure and having clarity of the role is important. A nurse has to coordinate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team and to attain proficiency ineffective communication and good interpersonal skills are important. To work during the crises time, being a nurse, it is important to command in physical endurance and ensure problem-solving skills (Veenstra, 2020). Personally, my communication skills are effective and also I am emotionally stable, which follows the NMBA standards of the registered nurse. To work in a diverse environment, I abide by the code of dignity, to provide care, respect, hold values and ensure to be culturally sensitive and maintain confidentiality element. I hold an in-depth professional code of conduct and remain meticulous in my ditties and workings (Wirnitzer, 2016).

Continuing Professional Development

As per the Continuing professional development plan, 

I have done the First Aid Training in the year of January 2018. 

 I have also completed the completed hand hygiene course in March 2018

I have also gone through the Childhood Child Wellbeing and attained the Child protection Certificate course in October 2014.

I have also used the Completed Aseptic Technique in March 2015.

I have done Basic life support in March 2015.

I have completed Deterioting Patient- Adult in May 2015.

I have also completed Aboriginal culture- respecting differences in October 2014.

I would be completing my Nurse degree and equip myself with the clinical innovations and to acquire more knowledge about the safe practices under nursing.

I aim to join some course to inculcate my critical thinking in myself. I will join some course to inculcate critical thinking in myself. I would like to improve my approaches and the problem-solving skills that could help to provide safe work practices. I also want to acquire skills to attain more skills to rectify medication error and also to work in accordance to the beds of the patient (Rustad, 2017).

My main aim is to inculcate the quality empathic disposition in myself while comforting the patient.

Description

I would like to reflect upon a medical mistake which is common in nurses to experience the needle stick and sharp injuries. While getting placed, I encountered an experience while administrating subcutaneous injection to a patient admitted in the post-operative ward. After this, the nurse tried to again recap the needle. This episode was intervening by the senior nurse who saw and guided for the procedural resistant container (Renholm, 2017).

 Feelings

By seeing this episode, I was taken aback, as during my continuous nursing education, that the practice to recap the needle in the puncture container even by mistake can impose a great risk to the nurse. I was shocked with the entire episode, as the senior nurse if not have been careful and alerted the situation, could have led to junior nurse continuing the recapping of the needle practice and it could have hurtled the nurse from the long term perspective.

Evaluation

The nurse and the healthcare worker when assessing the nursing procedure can acquire the blood-borne infection. This could include the infection such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. Through the evidence presented by the Irani (2018) who has mentioned that the needle capping can be an erroneous practice that could lead to serious repercussion effects. Fishman (2018) mentioned that it was emphases during our continuing practice education and it was necessary to follow the codes, procedures and conducts meticulously.

Analysis

This event was significantly related to the events described in the primary and the secondary analysis. Bahr (2019) due to the subcutaneous injection, the needle can break into the skin and it can also cause a break in your skin or can hit the nerve. It can further lead to the scarring, lumps, or dimpling of the skin due to the subcutaneous injection

Conclusion

Through the literature review, it has been identified that there has been a vulnerability of practising nurses against the hazards and infection which it can cause due to the needle capping.

Action

In my future practice, from this practice, I would abide by the CPE and ensure safety needle practices.
