Introduction to Childcare Policies in Comparative Perspective

This report is about project-based learning (PBL) about the education policy ‘Duty of Care’. This topic is of great significance because the schoolchildren might face various harms or abuse if appropriate protection or care is not maintained by the staff. This might impact the physical and mental health of the child and thereby affect its learning and development (Policy and Advisory Library Home, 2020). Therefore, the question is about how this policy can affect the care of the child in school and the duty of the school staff for them. The following sections of the report will discuss the team processes, findings, and the summary future practice implications of this policy.

Team Processes

The policy was reviewed for all of its sections and it was critically analyzed that how it can affect the daily routine, learning, and development of the child. The recent literatures (journal articles) from credible journals were also used to study the associated factors that can affect the child. The interviews and face-to-face interaction was performed with the school staff, children, and their parents about the policy and their use or effects. 

Findings

It was found that the policy states that it is the duty of the school staff to ensure complete safety and care of the child inside and outside the school premises such as during picnic sessions, museum visits, or any other outings (Policy and Advisory Library Home, 2020). Physical abuse or harassment can leave a life-long impact on the mental health of the child therefore, the policy ensured that any such harming or oppression cases are not reported and if any loss is recorded then compensation will be ensured (Early Childhood Management Services, 2020). It was found that the children are focused more to be independent and develop a social life with appropriate and professional care. For example, as per the policy, the school staff ensured that in school buses teachers are assigned so that during pick-ups and drops from school-home safety is ensured. This safety has increased the sense of confidence in the children and they show increased involvement and participation in various school activities.

Outlines of Future Practice Implications

For effective implementation of this policy in future teaching, it is required that the schools should frame a special committee to ensure that the policy is effectively followed by the staff. The positive implications include the knowledge of the policy by the principals and every staff of the school to ensure the overall development and care of the child. Implementation of cameras in the school premises and encouragement of the children and their parents for reporting the cases of risks, harms, or any abuse for effective actions against the violations of the policy guidelines will ensure a high level of care. Not only the school staff but the parents should also be asked to interact with their child and their teachers so that the child feels secure and comfortable to report the incidences of harm or feelings and experiences with them; this will ensure effective care of the children (Breitkreuz et al., 2018; Yerkes et al., 2018)

Summary of Childcare Policies in Comparative Perspective

This PBL report conducted a critical review of the duty of care policy that can affect the care of the children. For this, observations of the literature and interviews were conducted to explore the impacts of the policy. It was found that schools ensure the physical, mental, and behavioral care of the children for their safety and security by appropriate monitoring and supervision. In the future for better results with the help of policy, the collaborative efforts of parents, children, and school staff can deliver high-quality care and duty towards the care and safety of the children in school.
