LPA Self - Assessment Results

Introduction

Self-awareness can be defined as the ability of an individual to perceive himself/herself clearly by reflecting on thoughts and actions taken by him/her. As per Ackerman (2020), it helps one to take control of actions and work on the betterment of those actions and achieve a better personality. Although it is evident among the people that self – awareness is a well understandable term, but one should really knows the origin of it as a concept. We often go about the whole day speaking, thinking and feeling different emotions acting or responding to them accordingly without introspect the possible outcomes of those actions. So, it is important to introspect and learn about the concept of self-awareness. The aim of this assessment is to shed some light on the concept of self-awareness with the help of literature and evaluating the self-assessment results.

Significance of Taking Self - Assessments

Self-awareness offers a chance to introspect the actions and helps improve those actions so as to help people to stay closer to their values and ethics. It also helps understand the concept of self-control in order to choose correct and ethical ways to achieve the desired goals. It does not only involve thinking about or retrospection of action but also includes monitoring our beliefs, thoughts and emotions (Davis, 2019). In a survey carried out by Panadero, Jonsson and Botella (2017), it was found that self-assessment components led to significant moderation levels on self-efficiency. In an interview conducted for students and teachers by Yan and Brown (2016), it was found that the people to undertake self-assessment also worked on determining their performance criteria and had an approach of self-directed feedback seeking. As per Sharma et al. (2016), in a test carried out for undergraduate students, there was better academic performance found in students after students undertook the task of self -assessment.

Assessment and Evaluation

Self-awareness requires a couple of steps. It involves peace of mind, attention and focus (Davis, 2019). Being a step ahead of time helps achieve the ethics and qualities we value. A majority of us are living our lives so carefree that we hardly have a moment to understand the basis of our success or our failure (Warley, n.d.). I personally believe that self -awareness and self-assessment are some of the most important skills to follow to increase personality growth and learn the things about ourselves which no one else can teach us. The workspace competency skills and attributes which I had been sown in me from the beginning have been demonstrated in good score in some particular sections in the LPA self-assessment. A score of 9 in ‘adapting to change’ helped me realise that major part of any achievement held by me has been due to the fact that I have been keen to undergo changes as per the situation keeping in mind that I do not neglect my ethics. It became more evident from the fact that my ‘adapt to change’ approach towards things helped me achieve better heights at school.

As an introvert student who found difficulties in solving mathematical problems, changing to a person who slowly learnt to approach teachers with doubts helped me a better student. Learning and self-development has been a key skill which has helped me learn constantly from people and things and shaped my approach towards different aspects of life. Achieving and solving problems have to be worked on keeping in mind the average scored obtained in this particular section (Wignall, 2019). A better approach at solving problems helps in achieving goals more effectively and enhances personal and professional life. The theoretical concept from the module which has helped me understand the marks scored in the LPA self- assessment is setting up of objectives. As per Bird (2012), a good way to achieve goals whether in professional or personal life is to set them in an effective manner and to constantly give and receive feedback. Feedback helps in analysing set objectives and our approach towards them.

In a world which is mostly described as a VUCA World in technical terms, setting and achieving goals can be an important workspace competency which might help me achieve my professional goals. In order to master this skill, a few Strengthsfinder talents which need to be worked on are developing an adaptive mindset which can help me think and change my approach towards different tasks. Self-awareness can help me understand the goals I have set and my approach towards it. Communication can help me send and receive ideas which can help get different views of my goals. Also, learning through the process can help me receive feedback on my goals and help me set future goals in a more effective way. Lastly, the constant urge to create a change can help me stay motivated at any point in time and not let me divert from my goals.

Conclusion

Self-assessment has been a part of our approach towards certain things but only after it has been too long and the task has gone terribly wrong. It has been an important skill required to be an ethical person and live up to the values which are appreciated by the society. It has been often been hyped up to be something which includes the process of finding oneself Some people are yet to begin with this process and some are those which have already been exposed to this. It is something which should be promoted with the help of some exercises formed by people who have extensively worked and researched on this.
